View AllHow To Calculate Square Feet For Accent Walls
1. Measure Your Wall
- Width: Measure from one side to the other in inches.
- Height: Measure from floor to ceiling in inches.
2. Calculate the Total Area
- Multiply width × height to get the area in square inches.
- Convert to square feet by dividing the result by 144.
Example:
For a wall that is 120 inches wide and 96 inches tall:
120 × 96 = 11,520 square inches
11,520 ÷ 144 = 80 square feet
3. Subtract Any Areas You Won't Cover
If there are windows, doors, or other areas where you don’t need wood, measure each one in inches, find the area (width × height), then convert to square feet and subtract from your total.
Example:
Window measures 36 inches wide by 48 inches tall:
36 × 48 = 1,728 square inches
1,728 ÷ 144 = 12 square feet
80 - 12 = 68 square feet
4. Add 10% Extra for Waste
To account for any cutting or board selection, add 10% more to your total.
Example:
68 square feet × 0.10 = 6.8 square feet
68 + 6.8 = 75 square feet
